Love it or hate it, the infamous street racing anime that took the auto scene by storm has left an interesting impression for 15 years total (longer if you count the manga), and it's finally retiring from the airwaves forever.
Personally, I knew the series was only good for one season and that was first stage, which leads to a fact that not a majority of people enjoyed the seasons after (Second Stage, Third Stage the Movie, Fourth Stage…). And to be honest, I seriously can't see why they gave it a second chance at life considering how Shigeno and the Production Staff handled Fifth Stage.
Well, it was horrible.
So I was kind of expecting Final Stage to be mind-achingly horrible but halfway through the short season, things sort of picked back up for the good.
Is it at the right time? Well, no, considering the fact that the manga finished before the anime, but at least things had a chance to go out with a spectacular bang.
I won't say what happens since I'm not in the mood for spoilers, but it was good. I won't say it was great, but it was decent enough to be good. Sure, it was part of my childhood that got me interested into cars, but not enough to get me in a Toyota AE86 - because really, who wants an outdated hatchback?

In the end, I'm anticipating the release of the new Initial D movies, and I am hoping they're better than the first stage. Hell, with voice actors Daisuke Ono (Black Butler, Suzumiya Haruhi series, Masked Rider Den-O Series…) and Mamoru Miyano (Kingdom Hearts, Tales of Vesperia, Mekakucity Actors…) on board, how bad could this be?
